Robyn Moore Gibson was married to Mel Gibson from 1980 until their divorce became final in 2011, and in the years since his first wife has barely said a word about any of it. In December 2025, Gibson’s most recent partner, Rosalind Ross, ended their nine-year relationship with a joint statement to People magazine, thanking him for their son in her own words. Robyn didn’t respond to that either. In nearly fifty years connected to one of Hollywood’s most talked-about men, she has spoken publicly about him exactly once, and it wasn’t to talk about herself.

Before Mel Gibson Was Famous
Robyn Denise Moore met Mel Gibson in 1977 in Adelaide, South Australia. He had just finished filming the first Mad Max and joined a local theatre company for stage work. She was a dental nurse. They shared a flat costing $30 a week before either name meant much outside Australia, and married on 7 June 1980 in a Catholic church in Forestville, New South Wales. Gibson was 24.
She’s occasionally confused online with a different Robyn Moore, an Australian voice actress known for the cartoon Blinky Bill. That’s a separate woman, with her own family and her own career in radio. Robyn trained in dental care and never worked in entertainment.

Gibson once called his wife “a saint,” adding that she was a far better person than he was. Their marriage started coming apart in July 2006, the same week Gibson was arrested for drink driving in Malibu and made antisemitic remarks that made headlines around the world. He later said the marriage had effectively ended that night.
Robyn separated from him twenty-six years after their wedding. She filed for divorce in April 2009, not long after photographs surfaced of Gibson with his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. Through all of it, she said nothing publicly.
The Divorce That Made Robyn Gibson $425 Million
In 2010, while Gibson and Grigorieva were fighting over custody of their daughter amid allegations of domestic abuse, Robyn filed a sworn statement with the family court. In it, she said Gibson had never been anything but a good father, and that she and their children had never experienced abuse from him. That statement went to a judge, not a journalist, and it remains the only time she has gone on the record about her life with Gibson.
Months after Robyn filed for divorce, Gibson went on television and said he was the one to blame, calling it “a pretty good hatchet job” on the marriage. His ex-wife never responded to that either.
The divorce became final in December 2011. The couple had never signed a prenuptial agreement, so under California’s community property law, Robyn was entitled to roughly half of everything earned during the marriage. Reports at the time put the figure at around $425 million, believed to be the largest divorce settlement in Hollywood history at that point, ahead of the roughly $100 million Steven Spielberg reportedly paid Amy Irving in 1989. The agreement also gave Robyn half of Gibson’s future film residuals and pension benefits, along with two Malibu properties worth a combined $22.5 million. She reverted to her maiden name once the papers were signed.
What She Did With the Money
None of it went toward visibility. Robyn had already spent years running the Malibu chapter of Mending Kids International, a charity that arranges surgery for children who can’t otherwise access it, and the role predated the divorce by some distance. When Gibson pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge involving Grigorieva in 2011, part of his sentence was community service, which he completed with the same charity Robyn had already been leading.
She put the settlement into property instead. In 2014, she bought an oceanfront home on Broad Beach for around $18.2 million. A separate Malibu property she owned burned down in the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Six years after the Broad Beach purchase, she paid $17.5 million for a clifftop estate on Point Dume, then sold the Broad Beach house the following year for a significant profit. Her net worth is now estimated at around $400 million.
Since Robyn, Gibson has had two other major relationships, and both became public stories in their own right: Grigorieva’s through leaked recordings and a bitter custody fight, Ross’s through a joint statement to the press. Robyn’s account of her own marriage still runs to a single document, the sworn statement she filed with a family court in 2010, and nothing since.
